The Crisis that Prompted the Call

New College of Florida is a prestigious honors college in Sarasota, Florida, with a low student-teacher ratio and an even lower crime rate.  Educational leaders around the nation are increasingly taking “campus hardening” more seriously for obvious reasons, and those at New College are no exception.  Safety is of the utmost importance.

In 2013, when a previous security company’s access control system stopped functioning at one building, Sr. Plant Manager Alan Dawson and the campus police department considered a weakness in campus security a serious crisis.  Yet they couldn’t get a technician to respond.  The situation erupted into frustration.

New College representatives knew they had at least 150 alternatives.  They asked for recommendations from people they knew.  They were led to contact United Security Alliance.

Increased Security, Decreased Frustration

After a multiple bid evaluation process required of Florida public universities, United Security Alliance was selected.  They proceeded to implement a new two-way emergency speaker system in classrooms as well as additional video surveillance cameras.  More importantly, they also took over maintenance and support of the entire campus-wide security system.  This included surveillance cameras, access control systems, emergency phone systems, and 2-way emergency speaker systems.

“We put a lot of things in place to guarantee we don’t have problems,” says Dawson.

Disparate Systems Now United

When United Security Alliance was not trained on some of the hardware and software, they received the training.  When they weren’t a certified dealer, they became a dealer.  Every step of the way through multiple phases of grant approvals and project expansions, they exceeded partnership and customer service expectations.

In addition, United Security Alliance’s technical team eliminated all the disparate software systems for various cameras installed at different times around campus, and integrated them into one single software platform.  The impact was huge.  All cameras were finally being managed on one system.
